I'm using Shopify to host my website - how do I connect my domain name?

Pointing a domain name to Shopify hosting

Before proceeding

Note you do not have to migrate your domain to them, you can keep it registered with Sixfive, you just need to select the right options in their process.

When you are ready to set up your website with Shopify, you can follow the steps in their Knowledge base article for connecting a third party domain.

Obtaining your Shopify DNS records

Shopify provides the DNS records you need to connect your domain name to their service here. You can see that they will provide you with an IP Address for an A record and an address for your www. CNAME record.

These may change, but here is what you need in your domain's DNS:

First your root domain:

  • Host = @
  • Type = A
  • IP = 23.227.38.65

Then your www subdomain:

  • Host = www
  • Type = CNAME
  • IP = shops.myshopify.com

You will need to remove any other records that may be in place that conflict with this.

To do this via My SixFive please see How to manage my DNS records in My SixFive

Once complete you should proceed to your Shopify Dashboard > Settings > Domains.

Click Connect existing domain, enter your domain and click Connect.

Note we cannot help with Shopify other than to check the instructions above as we do not have any ability to see things from the Shopify side.

If you are having problems, please reach out as we can also apply these records for you.
