Change of Registrant/Registrant Correction request
Sometimes it is necessary to change the registrant of a domain name. This article serves as information about how this process works.
AU Domains
The Change of Registrant process happens when the Eligibility criteria must change. e.g. You change ABN numbers or company names. This is common when a domain is transferred between a buyer and a seller, or if you change business structure.
To do this, please email us your new ABN and we'll initiate this for you. Note that this is sometimes rejected if the change isn't obvious and we may need more information from you as detailed in Manual Change of Registrant
Note that AU transfers cost $197.00 + GST and include one year registration on the domain.
COM Domains
You can change the registrant details on a com/org/net domain via My SixFive > Domains > Update Contact Details
You may need to confirm the change via email confirmation.
UK Domains
You can transfer your UK based domain using the instructions on Nominet's website.
Note that UK Transfers cost £10 / AUD$20 + GST.
NZ Domains
You can change the registrant details on an nz domain via My SixFive > Domains > Update Contact Details
You may need to confirm the change via email confirmation.
Trust Detail Corrections
When you purchased your domain you were able to use the name of you trust, Since a crackdown in compliance by the .au Domain Administration in 2024 you will receive an email stating that your domain is registered under a Trust. Under the .au Domain Administration Rules: Licensing, a Trust is not considered a legal entity eligible to hold a domain name license.
All you need to do is follow the link in the email you received to update the trustee information to remain compliant.
How to identify the Trustee of the Trust:
You’ll need to list the Trustee’s details as the Registrant, not the name of the Trust itself.
- For a company trustee, use the full company name and its ABN or ACN.
- For an individual trustee, use their full legal name.
You can find the Trustee listed in the trust deed. This will typically appear in one of two places:
- Near the start of the document in the Recitals section, in a sentence like: “John Citizen of 1 Sample Street, Hobart (‘the Trustee’)”
- At the end of the document on the Schedule page, next to a label such as: “Trustee: [Name]”
Ensure you use the Trustee’s name, not just the Trust name, as shown in the deed.
You can read the full eligibility and ownership rules on the AuDa page here .au Domain Administration Rules: Licensing
