What is the process of domain transfer?

We'd love to look after your domain names for you. You can initiate a domain transfer via our website.

Here are some common questions about domain transfers.

I have already paid for a year (or more) at my current provider

We will honour that pre-payment, so you won't lose anything that has already been paid.

If your transfer has a fee, we will use that to extend your existing expiry date.

For example:

Your expiry is 8 months from today

After the transfer, your expiry will still be 8 months from today

If the domain authority requests a transfer fee, your new expiry will be 20 months from today.

What should I do to prepare for the transfer?

1) In your existing registrar, find the EPP code/domain password

2) Find the transfer lock and turn it OFF

3) Look for domain privacy and turn it OFF

4) Look at the registrant email address, and ensure you can access it before submitting the transfer, if not, change it now. You will need to receive emails here during this process.

My domain (email and website) is in use. How do we prepare it so there is no downtime?

This requires some preparation. Contact our team before you submit the transfer, and we'll help.

1) Provide us with a copy of all your current DNS records - you can usually get this as a CSV export from your current DNS provider. Note a screenshot is not enough as it won't capture all the details. We are also human, and trying to read and then type some of these records results in mistakes!

2) We'll set up your domain on our Cloudflare servers (if you have lots of domain names we will help you set up your own Cloudflare account

3) We'll provide you with new name servers for this domain

4) You will update your domain at your registrar to use these new nameservers

5) You and our team make sure everything is working once the change is complete

6) You can submit your domain transfer, knowing that nothing will break.

What happens when I submit a transfer

1) Pay the invoice for the transfer

2) Each domain will trigger an email notification to the current Registrant email address of the domain. You must review each email and action per the instructions. Confusingly some domains have a link to click to DENY the transfer, and some have link you must click to APPROVE the transfer, so read each carefully.

3) The domain will complete the transfer after a period of time - usually 5-7 working days.

4) You will get an email from us stating this is complete
