When a business is sold or you rebrand your business - you would like to have your primary domain lined up with the new brand. Contact us if you would like to have this happen. 

You can do this in two ways: 

1) Set up a completely new account and migrate all your user data 

This costs time and money, plus a lot of migration synchronisation, double-checking data, business disruption and running of two accounts. We recommend you avoid this. 

2) Switch your primary domain to the new one 

This is relatively easy and quick; however, has some things you need to be aware of: 

Email delivery disruption 

When we change your primary domain, we have to disconnect the new and old domains from your account to set up the system to make the change. This usually takes a few minutes to disconnect and reconnect, but email cannot be delivered in that time. Google will reject it as the domain is not registered on their system. 

Google's official documentation states this could take up to 24 hours. However, in our experience, this is a 30-minute period if handled correctly.

The good news is that most sending email servers will see this as temporary and try to resend the email in the next hour or so. This means in most cases; you will not lose any incoming email. 

Usernames and passwords 

When the switch is completed, your users will log in to Google using name@newdomain.com - the part before the @ will not change, only the part after it. 

Your user's passwords, security settings and two-factor authentication will not change. 

Old domain email delivery 

Your old domain will continue to be able to be used. We connect it as an alias domain, so anyone who sends you an email in the future can do so. When you reply, it will come from your new domain. All users and groups will have this enabled automatically. 

Third-party services and login

Any login with a third party where you use email and password will continue to work. It's not a Google service, and completely separate. This means you can log in and go to the My Account area and update your email there is no rush to do this unless you are not renewing the old domain name.

2. Access to the DNS for the new domain name (it's easier if we do so all changes can be done quickly without any disruption to you) 
3. A time to make the change 
4. It takes a bit of time to do this, and there's lot's of moving parts so we'll pop you an invoice for $450 + GST
