What is the Global Directory?

The Global Directory, when enabled, is a list of all Google Workspace users that are visible in the directory. 

As the name implies, it is Global Directory of contacts available to every one of your users. It can also contain external contact records to this list, however there is no user interface to do this, it relies on the use of the admin APIs, or a third party app to do so.

Note when you have extra contact records in here that: 

  • These are not available in your contact records on your mobile device. However when using the gamil app, they will appear as suggestions for use. 
  • Your team is automatically added, and can be opted out of the list via the admin area
